Devotional: Killing a lack mindset

Posted by Rickette Williams on

The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing-Psalm 34:10

Have you ever thought?:

I'll always live paycheck to paycheck.

The market is so saturated for me to have a successful business.

I can't trust females, that's why I only have male friends.

All the good men are already taken. I'm content being single.

I won't ever be able to afford that.

These are examples of internal conversations from someone who has a lack mentality.

Lack mentality can be defined as a preventative set of beliefs and viewpoint that says you will never have enough. This covert and subconscious mindset views God and His blessing as scarce. My goal is not to have you naming and claiming perse, but to bring awareness to this sneaky limiting belief that ay be sabotaging you from believing for God's best for you! We have the power to renounce stinking thinking and replace it with God's  truth and future for us. You have the power to walk in your purpose.

Grab a hold of this revelation: it starts in the mind. Our thoughts influence our emotions and our emotions impact our actions/behaviors/habits. There are many dangers of operating FROM a place of lack. Here are five dangerous manifestations of a lack mindset, that need exposure so that we can be free.

We open the door to jealousy and envy

Jealousy and envy robs us of rejoicing with those who rejoice. It's hard to be GENUINELY happy for someone else if you 'feel" nothing good happens for you.  You'll even downplay and reduce their blessings to luck or happenstance. You'll hoard resources and will see another member of the body as competition instead of vital to the marketplace as a fellow Kingdom member. This is straight up crabs in a barrel mindset.  Repent and ask God to remind you of your identity and what makes you special and that He has not run out of blessings.

We subconsciously rush God's timing

It's one thing to ask God for His speedy hand in a manner, but it's another for you to ask because of unbelief. If we truly believed in God's Perfect will and timing, we would never look at OUR clocks. Your Heavenly Father knows your needs, rest assured of this truth.

In unbelief, we question what God is able to do for US

And Jesus said to him, "'If You can?' All things are possible to him who believes." (mark 9:23) If God has shown it done for someone else, SURELY He can and will do for you!

We will not even try because we think we’ll fail

Have you ever uttered: I can't or that's not possible? Maybe you have even settled. Or perhaps someone told you of their vision and you've deterred them by projecting your lack mentality on them? It is hard to hope/dream, and then put your feet in position for ACTION when you don't BELIEVE open doors of opportunities and blessings are available for you.

We open a door to despair and depression

It's so easy to turn into pessimistic Patty and rain on the parades of others and ourselves when we have a lack mindset. Resolve that today is the last day you will open a door to despair because of the lie that you will stay in lack.

Lack mindset attempts to keep us in this vicious cycle of:

No vision
Lack of hope.
HOARDING our blessings/resources and unwilling to share because we are afraid that we will then be in lack.
Stuck in our steps and operating from insecurity.
I recognize that so many of you WANT to hope again. Like, no one wakes up saying:
Today is a good day to be pessimistic, cynical and hopeless.

LISTEN I GET IT:
It is scary to hope again.
It takes vulnerability to hope again.
It takes courage to hope again.
But you know what the tea is?
We can HOPE when we TRULY know we God aint finna play us when we PLACE our trust in HIM.

Remember what He told to our brother in the faith Jeremiah? If you know it, sing along with me:
"‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope"
Lack no good thing-Psalm 34:10

Ask me how I know that this is truly a battle. Listen I’m a fellow soldier with you, unlearning and reestablishing TRUTH. I refuse to be held captive to lies of lack anymore.

Pray this prayer with me or of course use your own words:
Lord forgive me for thinking that you have somehow ran out of blessings. forgive me for being jealous and envious forgive me for not knowing who I am in Christ and therefore comparing where I am and being discontent. I repent for believing that I am in lack when You said, those who seek The Lord lack NO GOOD THING. Lord thank you for being LAVISH in Your love for me. Lord thank you tor supplying my needs and giving me the desires of my heart, as I FIRST delight in You.

Lord help me to renew my mind and be transformed. Help me to identify a lie from the truth, so that I’m not depositing emotions of lack into my heart. Help me to think on things that are noble, true and praiseworthy. God help my thoughts to confirm and validate what thus says the Lord about me, my future, and my purpose. Lord in Your love, show me who I am. Holy Spirit convict me when I allow thoughts of lacks sneak in. Help me to evict them and replace with truth immediately. Thank You for walking through this journey with me. Thank you for giving me abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us. (Ephesians 3:20)
