What up. Happy January and I on care if we are weeks into 2021: Happy new year! I hope you're having a dope day.
For this month's devotional, I want us to pray for our WHOLE body. Just like Ephesians 6: 11-17 instructs us to put on our WHOLE armor of God, let's look at the importance and significance of praying from our crowns to the soles of our feet.
PRAYING FOR OUR MINDS
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things"-Philippians 4:8
Just like guarding your heart, we have to guard our thought life. We create stories all the time and then move accordingly. This is so dangerous, not just in business, but for our everyday lives. How many relationships are wounded because we THOUGHT something, most likely, speculation with no evidence. Too much is at stake to think thoughts that are untrue but do not represent minds that are SUBMITTED to Christ. Treat your mind like you truly understand it is valuable and can be breached. Just like you protect your accounts with security measures. And just like you cannot DEPOSIT liabilities into your accounts, learn how to deposit thoughts that will yield your DESIRED RETURN ON INVESTMENT. Reaffirm that you have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). Minds that are understanding, decisive, humble, stable, renewed, integral, righteous, peaceful, wise, mature, etc.
PRAYING FOR OUR EYES
"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal"-2 Corinthians 4:18
We must pray for our eyes, because it holds what we see and also what is unseen, the HIDDEN.
It is so easy to be deceived by what APPEARS to be.
What appears to be good.
I mean, let's remember how the serpent deceived Eve. "So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food-Genesis 3:6. How can you go after a goal that you cannot first see in your mind FIRST? Also, how do you SEE yourself? So much is at stake when we don't have vision, lack discernment, when we fail to walk by faith and when we don't see ourselves how God sees us.
PRAYING FOR OUR EARS
"For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, and they will turn their ears away from the truth and will turn aside to myths."- 2 Timothy 4: 2-4
There is a huge connection between our ear gate and our heart. (I go into praying over our hearts later in this devotional.) If our hearts wrongly or immaturely interpret what we hear, we then move forward in the wrong direction. We have to guard and have discerning ears. We cannot allow what we hear through our heart determine what was ACTUALLY said. I am a work in progress with making sure I've actually heard correctly and not heard through trauma response. We have the power to actively listen and have discerning hearing. Another reason we need to pray for our ears, is our ability to accurately hear what God is saying TO US. His sheep hear his voice and the voice of a stranger they do not follow.
PRAYING FOR OUR MOUTHS
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit"-Proverbs 18:21
What are you declaring from out of your mouth? How are you bridling your tongue so that it blesses and NOT curses? What are you feasting on in your heart, so that your mouth will speak accordingly? May our words be pleasing to God, edify and not tear down ourselves and others.
PRAYING FOR OUR HEARTS
"Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life"-Proverbs 4:23
Another translation says:
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it (NIV)
Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that's where life starts. (MSG)
I PRAY Holy Spirit REVEALS just how CRUCIAL it is that we MUST GUARD our hearts. The NIV says "EVERYTHING you do flows from it". I pray that our hearts that are whole and healed, or we’re on the journey to restoration. And you may wonder what must we guard our hearts from. We guard our hearts so that we can know where the enemy can gain a foothold which can then turn into a stronghold, which then can lead to bondage. Watch that our hearts do not grow cold from unmet, and probably UNCOMMUNICATED expectations. Cold hearts usually carry bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness. Cold hearts are not sensitive. Cold hearts are not vulnerable. Ask God to show you your heart!
PRAYING FOR OUR HANDS/ARMS
"He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze"-Psalm 18:34
When we pray for our hands/arms, this represents strength. Life's storms and battles can leave us weary and drained and we need to draw strength and power from God. Hands also receive FROM God. We can do a lot in our strength and in the power of His might, but may we also be like children and RECEIVE from our GOOD GOOD FATHER.
PRAYING FOR OUR FEET
"Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path"-Psalm 119:105
Praying for our feet is symbolic for seeking God's perfect direction. We pray to follow Christ, with our feet. We do not follow after trends nor the counsel of wicked folks. We ask God to order our steps and that He leads us in the way that we should go.
Let’s start the year off by bringing our whole selves to God. This was just a guide, YOU DECIDE your words to God. Be encouraged. There is so much work, but God has equipped us with everything we need for godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Do not let these words land on you as I am not good enough or that you works justify you. You are loved and nothing you can or won't do shall separate you from the LOVE OF GOD! Which body part prayer resonated with you the most?
